Empty my mind for sleep

Sometimes the action of the day
Keeps important issues out of mind
Until bedtime when I
Empty my mind for sleep.

The ceasation of volitional thinking and doing
Leaves an empty space
Into which emerge
Questions I hadn't even realized I'd put aside.
I learn the importance of each question
By the amount of effort required to put it aside and
Empty my mind for sleep.

It was not so long ago
That the backlog of important questions
So crowded my mind
That I believed it was impossible to
Empty my mind for sleep.

So big a backlog rendered me ineffective.

In the service of resolving any
I had to let go of all
And impose a new discipline:
Empty my mind for sleep.
