The Zen of Big BirdPerfect action through beginner's mind. What is Beginner's mind? Like Big Bird -- The Sesame Street Character Grace -- Doing the right thing without extra effort Grace is better than "moving with the flow" because Grace is active, while moving with the flow is passive. Zen is not inaction. It is the attainment of perfect action without unnecessary attachment, or effort. It is not effortless, but it begins to feel that way as beginner's mind comes in. Attaining Zen seems paradoxical: Shunryu Suzuki says that it is to achieve perfection, but without trying. .... I am not a Zen master - Why even listen to me? |
