Getting Over It

Experience is a harsh teacher.

It seems like I'm supposed to stop
Pursuing the particular sorts of people
That I've heretofore pursued.

I get ensnared.
I fall in love.

But I'm not right for them.

Okay, so I evolve,
And I get over my attraction to them.

But then the cycle starts all over again.

I'm losing count
Of all the amazing changes
I've been put through.

At times I feel
I wouldn't trade any of it,
Not even the most painful moments
Away for any price.

Except maybe for a single one
To settle down with
And love.
